Director Choi Hang Yong shared, ŌĆ£Many movies about space feature distant space. But not that many of them set their stories on the moon. ThatŌĆÖs where I found the charm.ŌĆØ Actually, the series is based on the short film by director Choi that received praise at the Mise-en-sc├©ne Short Film Festival in 2014. Soon after Netflix announced the drama adaptation, A-list star Jung Woo Sung joined the project as a producer, making headlines. Afterward, Crush and Blush and Mother writer Park Eun Kyo helped expand the story. ŌĆ£I really enjoyed director Choi Hang YongŌĆÖs short film,ŌĆØ said Jung Woo Sung. ŌĆ£I also liked its unique setting. I thought I could create Korean SF within the smart setting, so I jumped on it.ŌĆØ Kingdom star Bae Doo Na and Goblin star Gong Yoo will be leading the mysterious story unfolding on the moon. ŌĆ£At first, I was like, ŌĆśCan I star in a space movie in Korea?ŌĆÖ When I first saw the short film, it was surprisingly well made within a limited budget and conditions. Seeing it, I wanted to take on the challenge,ŌĆØ Bae Doo Na commented. Gong Yoo relayed, ŌĆ£I wanted to work in the SF genre. And I received the offer around that time. It felt like ten exclamation marks exploded in my head. It was a charming series with ingenious imagination and original material.ŌĆØ Due to the back-to-back success of Netflix K-contents, The Silent Sea team must be feeling a lot of pressure. ŌĆ£We do feel pressured, but each project has its own worldview and emotion. So we canŌĆÖt compare ours to the success they saw,ŌĆØ Jung Woo Sung responded.
