Prior to Monday nightŌĆÖs ceremony, Squid Game already had four Emmy wins, picking up Creative Arts Emmys in categories like best guest actress for Lee Yoo Mi. And today, Lee Jung Jae and Hwang Dong Hyuk took home Best Actor in a Drama and Best Director trophies, becoming the first Koreans to ever win the Emmys. Squid GameŌĆśs wins come as no surprise despite it being a non-English series, as it clearly was one of the favored nominees. In the directing category, the series was up against shows including Succession and Severance. ŌĆ£Since Squid Game got nominations at the Emmys, people keep telling me I made history, but I donŌĆÖt think I made history by myself,ŌĆØ Hwang said in his acceptance speech. ŌĆ£I believe, I have to say, we made all history together.ŌĆØ He continued, ŌĆ£I truly hope Squid Game wonŌĆÖt be the last non-English series to be here at the Emmys. And I also hope this wonŌĆÖt be my last Emmy either.ŌĆØ
Beating out a tough slate of competitors including Bob Odenkirk of Better Call Saul, Jason Bateman of Ozark, and more, Lee Jung Jae won the honor of being named the best actor.
